Period Power Emergency Response: Supporting Women & Girls in Aceh, West and North Sumatra

THE PROBLEM

In late November 2025, heavy rainfall triggered massive floods, flash floods, and landslides across Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, causing one of the deadliest disasters this year in Southeast Asia, affecting at least 3 million people.

According to the Indonesia Humanitarian Coordination Platform (IHCP)*:

  • 712 people have died
  • 289 are missing
  • More than 1 million people have been displaced
  • Many areas remain cut off due to destroyed bridges and roads

Women and girls are among the most vulnerable. In emergency shelters, hygiene kit needs are almost always overlooked. With limited sanitation, contaminated water, overcrowding, and zero access to menstrual products, managing their periods safely becomes nearly impossible.

These women and girls urgently need safe, clean hygiene supplies, right now.

THE SOLUTION

Perfectfit, together with Mercy Corps Indonesia and supported by Kopernik, is launching an emergency response to provide 1,000 dignity & hygiene kits to women and girls affected in:

  • Aceh
  • West Sumatra (TBC)

This week, Perfectfit will also donate and ship the first 96 boxes of bamboo pads in collaboration with Mercy Corps Indonesia and Human Initiative to kickstart the response. This crowdfunding will scale that effort.

WHAT WE ARE PROVIDING

Each Period Dignity Kit includes:

  • 4 boxes of Perfectfit organic pads;
  • 1 soap;
  • 1 small towel;
  • 1 small hygiene pouch;
  • basic printed hygiene instructions.

These products are safe, sustainable, non-toxic, and suitable for emergency conditions. No workshops or in-person education will be conducted in this phase due to the urgency and difficult access conditions. This phase is pure emergency distribution.
