A Leading Light for New Tech Agents

This year, Kopernik’s Wonder Women Western Indonesia program, supported by ExxonMobil Foundation’s Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative, is focusing on improving the business skills of women in East Java and North Aceh.

We are doing this by leading training for senior Tech Agents so that they can pass the skills and knowledge they acquire to new Tech Agents.

They are not just Tech Agents, they are agents of change, they are wonder women!

“I WANT TO BE LIKE THE SUN: SHARING MY LIGHT, MY EXPERIENCE, TO NEW TECH AGENTS, AND ALWAYS RADIATING A WARM SMILE WHILE DOING MY JOB,” SAYS NURLAILA, ONE OF OUR TECH AGENTS FROM RAYEUK MEUNYE VILLAGE, NORTH ACEH, INDONESIA.

Senior Tech Agents like Nurlaila are playing an increasingly larger role in inspiring other women to succeed as micro-social-entrepreneurs, thanks to a new training program.

IN OTHER WORDS, TRAINING OF TRAINERS

This year, Kopernik’s Wonder Women Western Indonesia program, supported by ExxonMobil Foundation’s Women’s Economic Opportunity Initiative, is focusing on improving the business skills of women in East Java and North Aceh. We are doing this by leading training for senior Tech Agents so that they can pass the skills and knowledge they acquire to new Tech Agents. In other words, Training of Trainers.

We started the training on 26 February 2015, and will continue it in stages throughout the year. In the early stages, the women were encouraged to dig deep to find the potential within themselves, building their confidence to become good training facilitators. The training was led by our resident training expert, Maria Mumpuni, who has brought extensive training experience to the Kopernik team - having delivered training in 20 last mile locations across 18 Indonesian provinces to date.

The first training topics included self-reflection, identification of proficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively. The senior Tech Agents enthusiastically participated in all the training sessions.

WE ARE NOT JUST TECH AGENTS, WE ARE AGENTS OF CHANGE!

“I WANT TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE, LIKE A COCONUT THAT GETS MORE NUTRITIOUS AS IT GROWS OLD,” SAYS HADISAH, ANOTHER SENIOR TECH AGENTS FROM RAYEUK MEUNYE VILLAGE.

In the third year of this program, our Tech Agents in North Aceh are making more and more positive contributions to their communities.

“WE ARE MORE THAN JUST AGENTS SELLING TECHNOLOGIES LIKE WATER FILTERS, SOLAR LAMPS, OR BIOMASS STOVES. WE ARE ALSO AGENTS OF CHANGE FOR OUR FAMILIES AND OUR PEOPLE,” HADISAH ADDED.

We hope the leadership skills the women develop through the Training of Trainers program will also empower the women be more influential in their own neighbourhoods, inspiring other women to become entrepreneurs, and encouraging people to use environmentally-friendly technologies.

They are not just Tech Agents, they are agents of change, they are wonder women!
